Keir Barnes has been appointed chief financial officer of ASX, moving from the same role at Dexus as Australia’s exchange operator refreshes its senior leadership team. ASX announced the appointment, and Bloomberg reported the change.

Barnes has been Dexus’s CFO since 2021, after two years as the property group’s deputy CFO. ASX did not state a commencement date in its announcement. Andrew Tobin, the current CFO, announced his retirement earlier this year and will remain in the role to support an orderly transition until Barnes starts.

A finance handoff inside a wider renewal

ASX said Barnes brings more than 20 years of experience across finance, funds management, corporate advisory and chartered accounting. The company placed the appointment inside its broader transformation and renewal program, framing the incoming CFO as a source of leadership depth rather than a one-off change in the finance function.

The move follows CME Group’s planned finance handoff, where a defined overlap was also designed to make a senior transition orderly. ASX’s release separately names Mark Peterson as managing director of Clearing and Settlement from November 2026, adding another layer to the exchange operator’s leadership reset. The CFO transition will be complete when Barnes’s commencement date is confirmed.
