Dominion names Germán Pradera CEO as Mikel Barandiaran becomes executive chair

Dominion will split its top two roles on January 1, 2027: Mikel Barandiaran becomes executive chair and Germán Pradera takes the CEO role, as Cinco Días and Expansión reported. The board approved the changes, which place the chair and day-to-day leadership in different hands after Barandiaran’s tenure as CEO.

Barandiaran, one of Dominion’s founders, will replace Antón Pradera as executive chair. Antón Pradera is leaving the chair role; he is the father of Germán Pradera, the incoming CEO. The two changes make this a handoff within the Bilbao-based group, rather than an external search for either position. The company said the changes would take effect at the start of 2027, giving the current leadership team time to prepare the transition.

Germán Pradera has spent 14 years at Dominion. His previous assignments include management at the group’s Peruvian subsidiary and responsibility for investor relations. He was part of the team that coordinated Dominion’s 2016 stock-market listing. Until now, he has led the environmental-services division, GDE, connecting his new remit to an operating area he already knows. Cinco Días reported that GDE generated €330 million in revenue through September and accounted for 43% of group sales.

The board framed the changes as a continuity decision, citing both leaders’ knowledge of the company and experience. Barandiaran said the transition was being prepared in an orderly way. Dominion’s management is defining its plan for 2027–2029, which will be overseen by the incoming leadership team. The reports do not describe a separate CEO search or announce a change to that planning timetable.

The sequence is clear: Barandiaran moves from CEO to executive chair on January 1, and Pradera takes over the operating role on the same date. Pradera’s route through investor relations, the Peruvian subsidiary and GDE gives the appointment an internal-company arc. For another recent board-chair transition, see Grupo Alvic’s appointment of Belén Frau as chair.

Cinco Días also reported that Dominion posted €8.2 million in third-quarter net income, up 36.6% year over year, while revenue reached €758.8 million. The succession begins as the company defines its next three-year plan, which is set to cover 2027 through 2029.
