Floor & Decor said Thomas Taylor will move from executive chair to chair of the board on January 1, 2027. The schedule appears in the company’s board announcement and SEC filing, and was also reported by MarketWatch.
Taylor became Floor & Decor’s CEO in December 2012 and moved to executive chair in December 2025. The company says the next step is part of a board succession and refreshment process, following CEO Brad Paulsen’s move into the chief executive role. From January, Taylor will hold the board chair position rather than the executive chair title. The company said this role will allow him to continue supporting the board and management team.
A second board appointment is scheduled for February 1, 2027, when Lauren Taylor Wolfe will join as an independent director. She is co-founder and managing partner of Impactive Capital, an investment firm that works with public companies on operational and strategic value. Before founding the firm, she spent a decade at Blue Harbour Group. She currently serves on WEX’s board and has previously served on the boards of Envestnet and HD Supply. Floor & Decor said it expects her capital-markets and operating experience to add a complementary perspective.
The board is also preparing for the departure of its lead director, Norman Axelrod. He has informed the company that he will not stand for reelection at the 2027 annual meeting, expected in May, and plans to retire after 17 years on the board. He will remain lead director through that meeting.
Taken together, the changes unfold over several months: Taylor’s role changes in January, Taylor Wolfe joins in February, and Axelrod’s board service is due to end in May. The company described the sequence as part of its succession plan rather than as an immediate change in day-to-day management. For another recent board-chair appointment, see Grupo Alvic’s selection of Belén Frau.
Brad Paulsen remains CEO; the company has not announced another change to the operating role. The board’s other adjustments are also scheduled for later dates, not as immediate departures. Taylor Wolfe is due to join in February, and Axelrod’s retirement is expected after the annual meeting in May. The timeline gives shareholders and employees a sequence of named governance changes to follow through the first half of 2027.
