Junaid Iqbal is set to become president and chief executive officer of Engro Corporation in April 2027, succeeding Ahsan Zafar Syed after the current CEO completes his term. The timetable gives Engro a long runway for succession. Iqbal brings experience scaling Careem’s Pakistan operations, leading its Saudi business and running Careem Pay; Syed will remain in place through the end of his term and then become counsel to the chairman of Engro Holdings. The change is designed to preserve operating knowledge while preparing the group for its next platform of growth.

Engro said Iqbal’s experience building platforms, allocating capital and developing partnerships fits its ambition to expand beyond its traditional industrial base. The group operates across fertilizers, energy, petrochemicals and telecommunications infrastructure, and the stated brief is to create new businesses that can attract capital and deliver durable returns.
The transition also gives Syed a defined next chapter. The board credited his tenure with the reintegration of Engro’s thermal assets and transactions involving Deodar and Engro Polymer and Chemicals. His move to counsel keeps that institutional memory close while Iqbal begins engaging with the businesses before the formal handoff.
