Jaime Leverton became chief executive officer of Fortitude Mining Holdings on September 21, succeeding Andrea Childs, who moves to chief operating officer. Fortitude’s announcement says Leverton will lead the vertically integrated Zcash miner as it advances a proposed combination with HeartSciences; CoinDesk places the appointment in the run-up to the proposed public listing.

The move is a return to a familiar kind of operating challenge for Leverton. She previously led Hut 8 through an all-stock merger with US Bitcoin Corp. and its Nasdaq listing, and most recently ran institutional digital-asset manager ReserveOne. At Fortitude, the mandate is to scale owned power, mining operations and the Zcash strategy while preparing a company expected to trade under the ticker TUDE, subject to Nasdaq approval.

A CEO for the transaction and the operating model

Childs’ move to COO keeps continuity inside the business as Leverton takes the top seat. The proposed combination with HeartSciences is expected to close in the fourth quarter, subject to shareholder approval and customary conditions. The combined company is expected to retain the Fortitude name and carry Leverton forward as CEO if the transaction closes.

That blend of operating and transaction work is what makes this appointment worth a closer read. It is not simply a new name at the top: it is a leadership choice made for a business trying to prove that its infrastructure, power portfolio and mining model can travel into public markets. The company’s setup echoes the succession-and-strategy overlap in Chiesi’s choice of David Khougazian, though Fortitude’s transition carries a financing and listing timetable as well.
