Maersk has named Jorge Monzalvo director general of its Mexico operation, effective January 1, 2027, replacing Patricia Pérez as she moves to a new position in the United States. T21 and Milenio reported the appointment on November 3, while PortalPortuario detailed his background and the transition. Monzalvo has led Maersk’s land-logistics products in Mexico since January 2026.
Over more than two decades at Maersk, Monzalvo has held roles in Mexico, Panama and China, spanning commercial work, operations, finance, product and customer experience. PortalPortuario reports that he led the launch in Mexico of Sealand, Maersk’s brand for trade within the Americas, and later worked to strengthen integration between commercial and operational teams. That experience connects the customer-facing side of logistics with the execution behind it, from transport products to service coordination.
Pérez will leave the country-director role for a new U.S. position. She has nearly two decades at Maersk, and the company credited her with guiding the Mexican business through a period when the country became more central to North American supply chains. North America president Ditlev Blicher described Mexico as a strategic market and cited Monzalvo’s familiarity with customers, operations and the local business environment. Monzalvo said his focus will be helping customers grow and making their supply chains more efficient and resilient.
The appointment comes as Maersk continues to expand its Mexican logistics footprint. The company has more than 59,000 square meters of warehouse space in Mexico City and Tijuana, alongside 250,000 square meters of capacity in depots and air-cargo centers in Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara. It has opened a depot in Manzanillo with an investment above $15 million and plans to add capacity in Guadalajara and Monterrey. These assets give the country director a broad operating platform rather than a role limited to ocean shipping.
The handoff is scheduled for January 1, 2027; no earlier changeover date was announced. For another Mexico-based leadership appointment, Encafeinados recently covered Banregio’s appointment of Guillermo Estrada Attolini as general director. The companies operate in different sectors, but both stories put local leadership in focus. The coverage does not state the exact responsibilities of Pérez’s U.S. position, and Maersk announced no other leadership changes within its Mexico team.
