Alex Warnock will become chief executive officer and join the board of Surgical Innovations Group plc on October 1, while David Marsh moves from CEO to non-executive director. The company’s board-change announcement says Marsh will support Warnock through key relationships and business development; a separate Reuters report confirmed that Marsh is stepping down after nine years in executive roles.
Marsh joined Surgical Innovations after the acquisition of Elemental Healthcare, the company he jointly founded, and has been part of the group’s leadership for roughly two decades. Warnock, 61, arrives with more than 25 years in senior operational roles across high-tech manufacturing, photonics and regulated medical technology.
The founder stays close to the operating handoff
Chairman Roy Davis said Marsh had played an important role in founding Elemental, leading Surgical Innovations and serving on its board. That history explains the shape of the transition: Marsh is not disappearing from the company, but moving into a governance and advisory position while the incoming CEO takes responsibility for growth opportunities in new markets and the company’s future plans.
Warnock’s background includes serving as group managing director of SDI Group and as chief operating officer at Foster & Freeman, Gooch & Housego and Optos. Davis said that experience gave him the right skill set to execute Surgical Innovations’ plans and deliver long-term shareholder value. It is a board-aware operating succession, closer to a relay than a reset, and it follows Lineage’s recent addition of Paul Beiboer to its board, another reminder that governance changes can carry as much weight as the headline appointment.
