Deere & Company appointed Julie Boland, former U.S. chief executive of EY, to its board of directors on November 2. Deere’s announcement names her as an independent director; EconoTimes reports that she will serve on the Compensation and Finance committees, while 24/7 Wall St. places the appointment against a soft stretch in farm-equipment demand.
Boland spent more than 16 years at EY and served as its U.S. CEO and managing partner, as well as Americas managing partner, from 2022 through 2026. Before that, she held finance roles at public and private companies and worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan. Deere said her background in executive leadership, financial reporting, governance and global finance would add perspective to the board.
The appointment brings Deere’s board to 11 directors, 10 of whom are independent and not company employees. Boland’s assignments on the Compensation and Finance committees place her experience close to two areas of formal board oversight. The company’s announcement does not describe any operating role for her or claim that her appointment changes Deere’s strategy. The board chair instead pointed to her leadership, financial acumen and governance expertise.
For another recent independent-director appointment, Encafeinados covered Stacy Taffet’s addition to Kohl’s board. The two appointments are separate, but both put a senior consumer-business executive into a public-company boardroom.
